Creating a Page

To start off lets clear this up.  Pages and profiles on Facebook are not the same.  Profiles are used for individuals, while pages are used for businesses, companies, products, artists and many other things that you may want to support or represent.  In our case most of our clients are local businesses, and want to have their page created on Facebook.  If you are our customer, and this is what you are looking for – you came to the right place.

This tutorial will walk you step by step and show you how simple it is to create a page, later on we’re even going to show you how to create a tab and link it to your free Facebook template provided by Find Your Net network.  Ready?  Let’s get it started!

Step 1: Log into Facebook.  If you don’t have a profile yet, simply sign up with Facebook, and then log in.

Step 2: Go to “Create a Page” section – simply click on this link and you will be re-directed in a new window to this page.  You will see an option to choose from six types of pages – you will most likely chose the first one that says “Local Business or Place”, but in case if your company is larger, you may pick the second “Company, Organization or Institution”.  For the sake of this example we are going to pick the first one.  Fill out the form and click “Get Started”.  You may get a security check popup – just retype the text and click “Submit”.

Done!  How easy was that?  Well, now you can upload an image and edit your information, so let’s do that as well.

Extra 1: Click on “Upload an Image” link and browse through your computer to find an appropriate image for you company.  Your page will refresh with the new image instantly.

Creating a Facebook Page

Extra 2: Click on “Edit Info” link in the header.  This section will allow you to enter information about your company.  First thing you can do is create a username.  Click on “Create a username for this Page?” link.  You will come to a page that allows you to pick a username – note that this might be the hardest task as many usernames have already been picked out.  Once you find one that works, simply click “Okay”

Next you could retype your company name in the “About” field, and add some information about your services in the “Description” field.  You can also add your operating hours and price range if needed.  Finally, make sure to put your email address and website address in the corresponding fields and click “Save Changes”

Voila – your page has been set up.  The Facebook page created in this example is available at: http://www.facebook.com/HouskeepServices

Sample Facebook Tab

Step 1: Log into Facebook.

Create New App on Facebook

Step 4: Your app is now created, simply update the information.  Most important part is, you have to select “Page Tab” option and fill it out as follows:

  • Page Tab Name: This is what will show on the Facebook tab
  • Page Tab URL: http://FindYourNet.com/facebook/index.php?company=YOUR_FYN_USERNAME
  • Secure Page Tab URL: https://FindYourNet.com/facebook/index.php?company=YOUR_FYN_USERNAME

You should also add an icon so that the button does not look generic, you can do so by clicking on the “edit icon” link.  And don’t forget to click “Save Changes”

Edit Your Facebook App

Step 5: Note the “App ID” that was created for you.  You will need it in order to activate the tab on your page.  Simply replace the blanks in this URL and paste it into the browser: https://www.facebook.com/dialog/pagetab?app_id=YOUR_APP_ID&next=http://www.FindYourNet.com/facebook/index.cfm?company=YOUR_FYN_USERNAME

Step 5: Finally you will get a popup for you to choose which page to add your tab to.  Select your page from the drop down and click “Add Page Tab”

Add Page Tab to Facebook Page

Ta-da!  Your tab is now on your Facebook page fully populated with the information you have provided to us.

Testimonials

Alana Puccio
Alana Puccio

If there was anything I could complain about would be the minimal phone support. Sometimes it is just easier for me to explain things over the phone than in an email. Samantha sent me an email telling me the steps to login to the administrator, but I did not know why to go there. I emailed few times asking for her phone number and she responded next day. Once she explained on the phone that the administrator is where I can put my contact information and facebook links it was easy. She showed me where to find the videos that I need that show what to do step by step. My website has been here since July and I already got two new leads that came to my office because they found me on the website. I like that on the phone the map tells you where to find my office. I also like the skins but it would be better if there was more of them. Thank you.
